Buying Supplements From Resellers

Four things you give up

• The guarantee. A money-back window belongs to the official seller and is keyed to an order number that only the official checkout issues. A marketplace order number means nothing to it.
• Freshness. Resellers buy in bulk and hold stock for as long as it takes to sell. A bottle that has been in somebody’s garage for eleven months is not the same bottle as one that shipped from the warehouse last week.
• Storage you can verify. Nobody can tell you what temperature a reseller’s stock has been kept at, and heat and damp are what degrade supplements.
• Certainty about what is inside. Counterfeiting in this category is real, and the more successful a product is, the more worthwhile it becomes to copy.

How to spot a reseller listing

Sold by a company name you do not recognise. A price noticeably under the official one with no explanation. Photographs that look pulled from the brand site rather than taken of actual stock. No expiry date shown or mentioned. Multiple sellers listing what claims to be the same item at wildly different prices.

Checking a bottle that has arrived

• An intact tamper band around the cap and an unbroken foil seal underneath.
• A batch code and an expiry date, both legible and both present.
• A label printed cleanly, with the ingredient panel matching what the official site shows.
• Capsules uniform in size and colour, with no loose powder rolling around.

If any of those is wrong, do not take it. Photograph it and raise it with whoever sold it to you.

The one exception worth noting

Some brands genuinely operate their own marketplace storefronts. That is a different situation, and the way to tell is that the seller name is the brand itself rather than an unrelated trading company.

The plain arithmetic

A discount of ten or fifteen per cent against the loss of a sixty day guarantee is a bad trade on a product you have never tried. On something you already know works for you it is a judgement call. On a first purchase it almost never is.
